The Zika virus has not yet reached Egypt despite it’s spread in other countries, the Egyptian ministry of health announced on Sunday in an official statement.
The ministry also added that it is following the international spread of Zika virus closely to take precautions to prevent its spread in Egypt.
The health ministry explained that the Zika virus is spreading via a variety of mosquito called “Aedes aegypti,” commonly known as the Yellow Fever Mosquito, whose origins lie in Africa.
Currently the virus is spreading through 21 countries and territories in the Americas since May 2015, according to the WHO.
Zika virus was first discovered in 1947 among monkeys before it was transferred to humans in 1952 in Uganda and Tanzania.
