An official source in the US Department of State described the role that Egypt can play in the Middle East as central as it is capable of contributing effectively to reaching solutions to all the region’s problems, mainly in Libya and Syria.

The statements were made on the sidelines of the Door-Knocking delegation’s ongoing meetings in Washington, organized by the American Chamber of Commerce in Cairo.

The source further said that Egypt is one of the countries that will play a key role in relieving the Libyan conflict and reach satisfactory solutions among all conflicting parties. The United States is very interested in ending the conflict in Libya, exerting efforts with its partners in the region to ensure the country’s stability.

On the Syrian conflict, the source emphasised the United States’ efforts to find solutions for a unified Syria, he pointed out that reaching a solution is for the benefit of all conflicting parties there.

On the other hand, the source praised the economic reform plans adopted by the Egyptian government during the current period and its ability to create an investment climate and an attractive working environment for investors. These reforms can put Egypt in the promising markets map in terms of attracting foreign investment in the coming years.

The source affirmed that the next phase will witness more strategic partnerships between Egypt and the U.S. in economic, military, and social fields, describing Egypt as the pivotal and most important country in the Middle East region.

The annual visit of this year’s Door-Knocking delegation comes in the light of new changes that have governed the relationship between Cairo and Washington in its political and economic natures. President Sisi’s recent visit to the United States earlier in April paved the way for re-formulating the political and security cooperation between the two countries, the matter which was welcomed by President Trump to reshape relations and take Egypt as a key ally in the region.
