The Freedom and Justice Party’s (FJP) headquarter was attacked by unknown assailants Friday afternoon in Egypt’s Nile Delta city of Zagazig.

The attackers possessed bladed weapons and Molotov cocktails, attempting to raid the FJP’s headquarters, reported Al-Ahram Arabic news website.

Police fired tear gas to disperse the assailants, who were chanting against the Muslim Brotherhood, condemning the trial of ousted president Hosni Mubarak and calling for President Mohamed Morsi to be tried in court.

One police vehicle was torched by the unidentified assailants during the clashes with the police.

Security forces have been deployed around the president’s house in Zagazig in fear of any potential attack.

This is not the first time for the president’s hometown to witness such assaults. On 29 March, protesters and riot police clashed in the Nile Delta city, after demonstrators tried to torch a Muslim Brotherhood office.

Meanwhile in Cairo, clashes have erupted between Islamist protesters, who have gathered to demand the purging of Egypt’s judiciary, and unknown opponents, leaving at least 49 injured.
