Turkish Airlines said on its websites Tuesday that the scheduled flights to Egypt’s Sharm El-Sheikh have been mutually cancelled until January 1, 2016, citing security issues over the airfield of the Egyptian city.
On November 19,Turkey’s Foreign Ministry issued a travel warning to Sharm El-Sheikh in Egypt’s Sinai Peninsula.
The ministry urged in a statement the Turkish citizens to take into consideration all risks when planning their visit to the city of Sharm El-Sheikh.
Meanwhile, a Russian passenger plane was shot down on October 31 after taking off from Sharm El-Sheikh and 224 people on board were killed.
The Islamic State in Iraq and the Levant (ISIL) claimed its responsibility for the shooting of the plane.
