Security forces have arrested Sunday two sons of former Salafist Al-Nour Party MP Gaber Abdel-Monem Ali, known as Gaber Gahlan, for allegedly digging for antiquities illegally north of Luxor.

The two accused are 22-year-old Mohamed Gaber Abdel-Monem and 20-year-old Abu-Bakr Gaber Abdel-Monem.

Abdel-Monem was a member of the People’s Assembly, the lower house of parliament, now dissolved following a ruling by the High Constitutional Court.

This is not the first incident to tarnish the reputation of the ultraconservative Salafist Al-Nour Party

Former Al-Nour Party MP Ali Wanis is facing trial after he was caught allegedly performing an “indecent” sexual act with a woman in public, a judicial source said Thursday.

Another Al-Nour Party MP, Anwar El-Balkimy, was accused of lying to the police when he claimed in March that he was attacked in an armed assault while it was later revealed that his facial injuries, which he blamed on teh attack, were the result of plastic surgery.
