Princess Diana’s black-sheep sweater, which she wore in 1981, is set to sale in an auction by the end of August and is expected to fetch from $52,300 to $91,600.
Shortly after Princess Di wore the sweater, the designers Joanna Osborne and Sally Muir from Warm and Wonderful, received a letter from Buckingham Palace telling them that there was damage done to the sweater and that it needs to be repaired.
The company then sent the princess a new sweater which she wore in 1983 with a pair of white jeans. Rowing Blazers reached out to the designers 40 years later to get their permission to sell the same design.
One of the designers found the original sweater in her warehouse in March, and then Sotheby’s Auction House examined it closely and confirmed that the damage in the sleeves shows that this is indeed the sweater worn by Princess Diana in 1981.
