One policeman was killed and another injured in a drive-by shooting in Giza’s Sphinx Square in Mohandeseen.
A security source told the Middle East News Agency (MENA) that unknown assailants on a motorbike shot at the policemen who were securing an HSBC branch before fleeing the scene.
The security source confirmed that one of the security men was killed and another injured with a bullet to the stomach. The injured guard was transferred to Agouza Hospital.
Egypt has been suffering from a wave of militant attacks against security forces since the July 2013 ouster of Islamist former president Mohamed Morsi.
Last week, another policeman was killed in the coastal city of Alexandria.
While attacks on security forces by militant groups have been mainly concentrated in the northern part of Sinai, they have also become regular occurrences in other parts of Egypt.
