Egyptian President Mohamed Morsi received this morning Catherine Ashton, High Representative of the EU for Foreign Affairs and Security Policy, and the escorted delegation at the presidential headquarters.
Mohamed Kamel Amr, Egyptian Minister of Foreign Affairs, and Dr Essam El Hadad, Assistant President for Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation, have attended the meeting.
The meeting has tackled the ways of expanding the cooperation between Egypt and the European Union (EU) in disparate fields; boosting the investments and the European tourism arrivals Egypt. It also discussed a number of international issues of common concern, like finding solutions for the Syrian crisis to stop shedding blood of Syrian people without foreign intervention, in addition to the Palestinian Cause.
Catherine Ashton participated yesterday in the second meeting of Arab and European Ministers of Foreign Affairs, which was held in Cairo. She affirmed that the EU keens on supporting and enhancing the transitions that Arab Spring countries live for achieving democracy. She also underscored the significance of reaching a political solution for the Syrian crisis and sustaining the efforts to bring peace in the Middle East.
