Magnitude 4.9 earthquake hits southern Iran

Southern Iran experienced a magnitude 4.9 earthquake on Friday, leading to the injury of at least seven people, according to state media reports. The earthquake which occurred at a depth of 10 km has affected the area near Shiraz.

This recent seismic event followed a 5.5 magnitude earthquake that struck northern Iran on October 17. Iran is prone to earthquakes due to its location along major geological fault lines.
