Free Egyptians Party Members Receive ‘Death Threats’

by Amwal Al Ghad English

Two members of the liberal Free Egyptians Party have received death threats, party spokesperson Shehab Wageeh has claimed.

Samar Fodah received death threats via Twitter and Amir Sawiris, a party member from Sharqiya, received death threats via email, Wageeh told Al-Ahram Arabic news website on Saturday.

Both messages contained abusive and sectarian comments and were signed “Jihadist Group,” Wageeh added.

“The threats are due to the polarisation and sectarianism that the ruling regime and the Islamist current promote. The threats come from fanatic groups that demonise and condone the killing of those who oppose them,” he said.

President Morsi, the Muslim Brotherhood and the security forces should be held accountable if anyone is harmed following these threats, Wageeh said.

“The Free Egyptians Party and all the liberal forces in Egypt will continue their efforts to liberate the country despite the threats and intimidation we receive,” Wageeh added.
