France’s President Emmanuel Macron told mayors that school attendance will not be mandatory when classes resume, his spokesperson said on Thursday.

Macron said that parents who are not willing to send their children to school would not be obliged to do so.

As part of easing coronavirus-related restrictions, France has outlined a plan to begin reopening schools on May 11.
