The Freedom and Justice Party (FJP), the political arm of the Muslim Brotherhood, announced on Monday that it is fully prepared to cooperate with all political forces in forming a national coalition government.
“The people’s confidence in their elected Parliament obliges us to assume this responsibility,” the party said in a statement.
The coalition government was proposed by Brotherhood Deputy General Guide Khairat al-Shater, who is expected to head it. He assigned 16 ministerial portfolios to the Brotherhood, namely the ministries of housing, health, trade, industry, higher education and scientific research, social solidarity, communication, planning, international cooperation, youth, finance, agriculture, petroleum, manpower, tourism and foreign affairs. He suggests a ministry for urban communities be added as well.
Sources said the ministries of defense and military production were assigned to the military, while the Interior Ministry would be headed by a civilian from outside the Muslim Brotherhood.
The proposal assigns the Ministry of Education to the Salafi-led Nour Party and the rest of the ministries to other parties.
