The residents of “Kafr al-Gomaa” village have blocked the Cairo-Alexandria road from both directions since last night in protest against the kidnapping of a girl.
“The blocking of the road has led to a traffic jam that cannot be described. We’re taking side-roads to avoid traffic. We don’t even know where we are anymore,” the eyewitness said.
He pointed to an obvious security absence, explaining that civil communities have taken it as their responsibility to manage traffic.
The state news agency reported a source as saying that negotiations are currently ongoing with the residents in an attempt to convince them to open the road for traffic.
Families and residents gathered in protest, blocking the road, when a mother of a 3-year-old girl was handed over by the kindappers, who asked for a L.E. 30,000 ransom, without her daughter.
Efforts are underway to find the kidnapped child, the agency added.
