Dr. Mohamed ElBaradei, the former director general of the UN’s international atomic energy agency and the prominent opposition figure in Egypt, stated on Monday that Syria’s mounting violence will lead to the country’s ultimate downfall and the whole region will eventually lie in ruins.
ElBaradei noted through his Twitter account that the only solution to stop the ongoing conflict in Syria is to reach an ultimate peaceful settlement.
The winner of the 2005 Nobel peace prize further referred to the Arabs’ reactions towards the Syrian crisis as ‘spectators as usual’ that add more misery to the country’s deteriorating situation.
“Why don’t we (as Arabs) initiate a summit which includes both the Syrian regime and the opposition so that we can prove to our nation and to the whole world that we can come up with solutions, needless to await guardians’ clues.” ElBaradei added
“Gruesome slaughterhouse in Syria becoming a spectator sport! Yet again a dysfunctional regional & global security system.”
