A Cairo prosecution referred the case of satirical performance troupe Atfal Shawaree (Street Children) to Egypt’s supreme state security prosecution to continue investigations, according to a judicial source.
The source said that the state security prosecution is “responsible for such cases.”
Five members of the group were ordered be detained for 15 days pending investigations in May on accusations of publishing videos insulting the state and attempting to overthrow the regime.
The sixth member, Ezz El-Din Khaled, had been arrested earlier in May and was later released on bail pending investigations.
The six-member group gained popularity online for videos they published that mock societal norms and the regime’s discourse and its supporters.
They released their first video in January 2016.
The last video Street Children published is called “Sisi is my president.”
