Egypt’s President Abdel Fattah al-Sisi left Jakarta Saturday heading to Egypt after an Asian tour that included Singapore, China and Indonesia.
In Indonesia, al-Sisi met with his Indonesian counterpart, Joko Widodo, where the duo discussed joint efforts to combat extremism and terrorism as well as strengthening the economic ties between the two countries.
Al-Sisi, who is the first Egyptian president to visit Indonesia since 1983, invited Widodo to visit Egypt.
Earlier in the week, al-Sisi attended China’s 70th anniversary celebration of the end of World War II. Eighty-one Egyptian army personnel took part in Beijing’s Tiananmen Square parades.
The president also visited Singapore, making him the first Egyptian president to visit the Asian country in 50 years.
Singapore held a traditional celebration in the Botanical Gardens honouring al-Sisi’s visit, and named an orchid after him.
