Egyptian President Abdel-Fattah El-Sisi is to address the nation Thursday on the anniversary of Laylat Al-Kadr (the Night of Destiny), when Muslims believe the first verses of the Quran were revealed to the Prophet Mohammed.
El-Sisi will address local and regional issues during celebrations late Thursday to commemorate the holy night, state news agency MENA said without giving a specific time for his speech.
In a Wednesday speech to mark the 1952 revolution, El-Sisi urged an end to bloodshed in the embattled Gaza Strip and defended Egypt’s role in trying to forge a truce between Israel and the Hamas movement that accuses Cairo of proposing a ceasefire deal favouring Israel.
