Egyptian President Meets 35 Newly-Appointed Ambassadors

by Amwal Al Ghad English

Egyptian President Mohamed Morsi met with 35 newly-appointed ambassadors to countries including the United States, Russia, Britain and France, official news agency MENA reported Sunday.

Quoting a diplomatic source, MENA said that Morsi will give them instructions over Egypt’s foreign policy for the next period.

The source noted that the appointments came as the first diplomatic movement taken place in Morsi’s age.

The 35 new ambassadors will assume their new posts on Sep. 1.

Sworn in on June 30, the Muslim Brotherhood-sponsored president has made several attempts to rewrite Egyptian diplomacy. On Aug. 28, he will start a three-day visit to China — the first non- Arabic country he visits after taking office.

Following his China trip, Morsi plans to go to the Iranian capital of Tehran for the Non-aligned Movement (NAM) summit at the end of this month, which will make him the first Egyptian president to visit Iran after the two sides cut their diplomatic ties over three decades ago.
