Egyptian Museum showcases foundation tools in April Piece of the Month

The Egyptian Museum in Tahrir showcased its foundation tools to mark the 126th anniversary of laying its foundation stone. The museum selected the foundation tools to be the April Piece of the Month.

The collection is made up of the hammer, trowel, pickaxe, and wooden porringer embellished with silver decorative elements used in 1897. It also includes the quill pen and inkwell used be Khedive Abbas Helmy II, who ruled Egypt from 1892 to 1914. Also showcased is the medallion specially fabricated to commemorate the event.

The Egyptian Museum in Tahrir is the oldest archaeological museum in the Middle East region. It holds the largest collection of Pharaonic antiquities in the world, displaying a collection that starts from the Predynastic Period to the Graeco-Roman Era.

The museum was built by French architect Marcel Dourgnon and it was inaugurated by Khedive Helmy II in 1902.
