Several flights on Egypt’s national carrier EgyptAir were briefly delayed on Tuesday due to an internet failure in some parts of the country, Al-Ahram’s Arabic news website reported.
An informed source at EgyptAir told Al-Ahram that morning flights were delayed one to two hours because of the system’s dependence on the internet in terms of reservations and travelling services.
The source said flights resumed as planned shortly after mid-day.
Telecom Egypt – the country’s main fixed-line operator – said internet services had partially resumed after its technical support team tackled the problem.
The company had earlier announced a halt in internet services in some parts of the country after a fire broke out in an inspection room, leading to damages and cuts in the transmitting cables between the capital Cairo and the Mediterranean city of Alexandria.
In Egypt, four main companies provide most of the internet services for 38.75 million users.
