Egypt is set to participate in China’s forum on UN 2030 sustainable goals taking place in Beijing, Minister of International Cooperation, Rania El-Mashat, announced on Monday.

El-Mashat will head to Beijing to participate in the first meeting of the Global Action for Shared Development Forum.

The forum will tackle strengthening joint action to implement the Global Development Initiative (GDI), which was proposed in 2021 by the Chinese president.

The GDI’s objectives include redirecting the world’s development to a new phase of comprehensive coordination and balance to face global challenges.

The forum has high-level delegations from 27 countries and more than 20 UN agencies and international non-governmental organisations.

El-Mashat is set to hold meetings with a number of representatives of the Chinese government and affiliated agencies to discuss joint cooperation.

Egypt’s total portfolio of cooperation with China amounts to nearly $1.70 billion for projects in various fields such as health, electricity, vocational training, education, and others.
