Egypt detected 141 new coronavirus (Covid-19) cases on Friday, reporting a total infection tally of 95,147 since the outbreak in mid-February, according to a health ministry statement.
The ministry also reported 20 new deaths, bringing the total deaths from the virus to 4,971.
The statement said 1,655 patients have been discharged from hospitals, bringing the total number of recoveries to 50,553.
This is the sixth consecutive day for the health ministry to register coronavirus infections less than the 200 cases. For the first time since April, Egypt’s daily toll of coronavirus cases dropped below 200 this week, with the daily toll hovering between 110-170 cases since Sunday.
Despite the recent lifting of lockdown measures, Egypt has been seeing a significant drop in its daily detected coronavirus cases, with the country’s daily record — 1,774 infections recorded on 19 June — unbroken to date.
