Egypt’s interim Prime Minister Hazem El-Beblawy agreed to form a committee to discuss the controversial articles of the protest law, after meeting with members of the National Salvation Front (an umbrella group of political forces).
The meeting and the decision to form the committee to instigate changes to the law came after clashes between protesters and security forces, who assaulted and arrested tens of demonstrators on Tuesday.
The controversial protest law, approved by interim president Adly Mansour on Sunday, has been slammed by numerous political groups as “repressive.”
Particularly controversial articles include requiring protest organisers to notify authorities three days in advance of a demonstration’s demands and imposing heavy jail terms and fines on individuals who break the law.
