Egypt’s health ministry reported 961 new coronavirus infections on Monday, marking the third straight day of cases below 1,000 since 24 December.
The ministry also reported 52 new covid-19 related deaths over the past 24 hours.
Monday’s figures bring the total number of confirmed cases since the outbreak in mid-February to 150,753, and death toll to 8,249.
The statement said that 312 patients discharged after recovering from the virus, bringing the total number of recoveries to 119,212.
Egypt entered a second wave of the pandemic since the last week of December after it recorded double the number of infections daily.
The spike comes after almost five months of reporting lower daily infections and death tolls.
However, Health Minister Hala Zayed on Monday asserted the stability in the country’s 363 hospitals designated for coronavirus cases in terms of occupancy rates and oxygen use during January, compared to the last week of December.
