Damietta-Port Said pipeline attackers arrested

by aya salah

Egypt’s interior ministry said on Friday that it had arrested six members of the banned Muslim Brotherhood group responsible for the bombing of the Damietta-Port Said pipeline on the fifth anniversary of the 25 January revolution.

According to the ministry’s statement, the suspects admitted to being part of a group called the “Armed Movement” and that they belong to the outlawed Muslim Brotherhood, from which ousted Islamist president Mohamed Morsi hails.

The ministry said that the attackers were given orders by fugitive Brotherhood leaders outside of Egypt to bomb the pipeline on the anniversary of the revolution as a means of “spreading chaos, hindering social peace and security, and obstructing economic development.”

The ministry said a fugitive Brotherhood member, Moath Zakariya Fahmy El-Sheyoukhy, ordered the perpetrators to plant a bomb on the pipeline in exchange for EGP 500.
