China’s special envoy for the Middle East Zhai Jun called an official at Egypt’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs, for humanitarian support for the Palestinian people, a statement from the Chinese Foreign Ministry said on Tuesday.
Zhai repeated Beijing’s earlier call for an end to the hostilities and condemnation of violence against civilians. He called for action to prevent a worsening of “the humanitarian crisis in Palestine, especially in Gaza,” the report added.
It is worth mentioning the bilateral trade between China and Palestine reached $158 million in 2022, a year-on-year increase of 23.2 percent. The bilateral trade is overwhelmingly composed of Chinese exports to Palestine.
China was one of the first countries in the world to recognise Palestine as a state in 1988. That same year, the office of the Palestinian Liberation Organisation (PLO) that had previously been established in Beijing was converted to the Embassy of the State of Palestine.
