Libya has ordered the Egyptian ambassador on Wednesday to leave the country within 48 hours.
According to well-informed sources told “Russia Today”, Libya has decided to sever its bilateral relations with Egypt.
This comes after Cairo court had acquitted on Monday a cousin and former aide of ex-Libyan leader Muammar Gaddafi, Ahmed Gaddafi Al-Dam for the attempted murder of two Egyptian police officers.
Ahmed Gadhaf Al-Dam was detained in Cairo in March following a gunfight with Egyptian policemen in his apartment and was held despite Libyan demands for his extradition.
According to witnesses, Gadhaf Al-Dam and his bodyguards allegedly fired a hail of bullets at masked policemen who had stormed his apartment in an upscale Cairo neighbourhood.
Gadhaf Al-Dam, who had an Egyptian residency permit, oversaw relations between Tripoli and Cairo but resigned from his post in February 2011 after the start of the revolt against Gaddafi.
