AfDB’s Annual Meetings to host African Pharmaceutical Technology Foundation

The African Development Bank Group (AfDB) is set to host a high-level event on the African Pharmaceutical Technology Foundation (APTF), to be hold on 22 May 2023 from 9:00 to 10:30am (GMT+3) in Sharm El Sheikh International Convention Center, Egypt.

The event will be held alongside the African Development Bank Group’s 58th Annual Meetings, which will be held from 22 to 26 May 2023 in Sharm El Sheikh city.

The APTF, a pan-African agency, was created by the African Development Bank in response to a call by the African Union Member States to create an institution addressing the technology gaps in the region’s pharmaceutical sector.

The Foundation works are on promoting technology access and transfer, while also facilitating relevant technical upgrading in the pharmaceutical sector in Africa.

It also focuses on bringing together global, Southern private sector companies, and public sector research institutions with their counterparts in Africa.

The foundation will also launch several programs that focus on amplifying technology absorption in Africa’s private and public sectors. During the event, those who participate will have the chance to engage in discussions about the Foundation’s fields of work.

They will also get to see its significance as a strategic agency in Africa’s emerging institutional architecture for pharmaceutical production and innovation.

The event will be chaired by Akinwumi Adesina, president of the AfDB, as it will also include a presentation on the APTF by Professor Padmashree Gehl Sampath, the Senior Advisor on Pharmaceuticals and Health at the bank.
