Iran’s Ali Larijani Lauds Egyptian Revolution

Iran’s Majlis Speaker Ali Larijani has hailed the Egyptian revolution as ‘a severe blow’ that led to the isolation of Israel.

“The great revolution of the Egyptian people delivered a hard slap [across the face of] the Zionist regime (Israel) and isolated the inhumane regime,” Larijani said in a meeting with a group of Egyptian revolutionaries in the Iranian capital, Tehran, on Wednesday.

Former Egyptian dictator Hosni Mubarak’s rule came to an end in February 2011, following a popular revolution in the North African country. Mubarak was a staunch ally of Israel.

Larijani described Egypt’s popular revolution as a great gift by God to the Islamic world, adding that the blood of the Egyptian nation spilled during the uprising will protect the revolution from plots.

He also referred to the deeply-rooted bonds and commonalities between the Iranian and Egyptian nations and said the two countries enjoy ancient histories and rich cultures.

Elsewhere in his remarks, Iran’s top parliamentarian said the Islamic Republic has overcome pressures by the global hegemony and managed to make achievements in technological, scientific, economic and political areas.

He said that Majlis fully supports the expansion and reinforcement of fraternal ties between Iran and Egypt in all spheres, particularly, in politics, culture and economy.

The Egyptian delegation said Egypt’s revolution was a step toward the termination of dictatorship and corruption in the country, adding that Egyptians will not rest until all the ultimate goals of the revolution are achieved.

The delegation also praised Iran’s support of the Egyptian revolution and expressed hope that Tehran-Cairo relations would further promote to benefit the Islamic world, according to Press TV.
