Number of tourists visiting Egypt fell 44% in October 2016: CAPMAS

The number of tourists visiting Egypt dropped 44 percent in October 2016 to 506,200 from 909,400 a year earlier, Egypt’s state-run official statistics agency CAPMAS announced Wednesday.

In its monthly bulletin, the CAPMAS stated that the number of tourists increased by 7 percent in October 2016 compared to 473,000 tourists in September 2016.

The number of tourists from Western Europe states upped by 36.0 percent in October 2016, the bulletin showed.

The Germans topped tourist arrivals to Egypt in October 2016, representing 38.8 percent of the total number.

Following Western Europe state, number of tourists from the Middle East states represented 25.1 percent, followed by Eastern Europe states that seized 18.9 percent of the total number.

The number of tourists from Americas, Africa, East Asia, Pacific Ocean, South Asia, and other countries registered 20.0 percent of the total number.

Number of tourists from the Arab states increased by 6.2 percent in October 2016 from 144,600 a year earlier, and opposed to 192,600 in September 2016.

CAPMAS added that the number of departing tourists hit 486,800 during October 2016 versus 513,300 in September2016 and 853,400 in October 2015.

The number of nights spent by departing tourists reached 3.3 million October 2016 from 3.1 million in September 2016 with an increase of 7.2 percent.

Western Europe states got the lion’s share of total number of spent nights in October 2016, getting 40.2 percent of the total number, while Middle East states got 31.8 percent.
