“The Civil Aviation Ministry is seeking to restore Egypt’s leading position in the civil aviation industry at the African, regional, and international levels,” said Minister of Civil Aviation Hossam Kamal.
During reviewing the ministry’s plan with Prime Minister Sherif Ismail, Kamal said his ministry is working on bolstering the capacity of Egyptian airports in line with the future demands.
The minister made it clear that his ministry is also working on upgrading the level of services provided by the ministry and increasing the capacity of airport terminals. This is in addition to implementing a number of new projects to expand the Egyptian airports and increase the number of runways.
The minister also pointed out to the ministry’s plan to establish a new terminal at Sharm el-Sheikh Airport at a capacity of 10 million passengers annually.
As for Cairo International Airport, the minister said that the airport’s terminal 2 is undergoing major renovations, to be finished in March 2016, at a total cost of EGP 3bn. This is besides renovating the airport’s runways with a total cost of EGP 235 million.
