President Abdel Fattah al-Sisi issued a presidential decree Monday to extend the deployment of Egypt’s armed force units participating in the Saudi-led coalition in Yemen for at least another six months or until the end of operations.
According to the decree that was published in the Official Gazette, the Egyptian armed forces will continue their operations to protect Egypt and the Arab world’s security in the Arabian Gulf area, the Red Sea and the Bab El-Mandab strait.
The presidential decree comes after the decision by the government on Saturday to extend the deployment of soldiers participating in the Saudi-led coalition in Yemen for another six months.
Egypt has been a part of the Saudi-led coalition against the Iranian backed Houthi rebels in Yemen since March with units participating predominately from the Egyptian navy and air force.
