Egyptian President Abdel Fattah El-Sisi has discussed late Monday the formation of a new cities in Rafah and Ismailia in response to the demands of the people living in the city, according to a statement issued by the presidency.

The city should include services and facilities of modern agricultural and industrial zones and residential models that fit the desert environment, he said.

Egypt’s cabinet has issued in November a decision to form a committee for the development of the North Sinai city of Rafah, where some residents were recently displaced due to a new military buffer zone to combat militancy in the area.

He also highlighted that a new city will be founded east of the Suez Canal, in Ismailia governorate.

Presidential spokesperson, Alaa Youssef highlighted in the statement that the officials discussed several proposals concerning road safety and new traffic regulations.

Youssef also stressed the importance of countering extremist religious discourse, and training preachers for this purpose.
