Egyptians began voting on Monday in a two-day presidential election which former army chief Abdel Fattah al-Sisi is expected to win, reviving rule by strongman three years after the downfall of Hosni Mubarak.
Polling stations opened at 9.00 a.m. (0600 GMT) across the country. Sisi, widely seen as Egypt’s de facto leader since he deposed the Muslim Brotherhood’s Mohamed Morsi last July, faces only one challenger: the leftist politician Hamdeen Sabahi.
