Egypt Buys 180,000 T Russian, Romanian Wheat

Egypt, the world’s biggest importer of wheat, bought 180,000 tonnes of Russian and Romanian wheat for shipment Oct. 21-31, the main government wheat buying entity said on Wednesday.

Mamdouh Abdel Fattah, vice chairman of the General Authority for Supply Commodities (GASC), gave the following breakdown of the purchases:

– 60,000 tonnes of Russian wheat from Glencore at $251.80 per tonne with freight costs of $11.92

– 60,000 tonnes of Russian wheat from Olam at $251.80 per tonne with freight costs of $12.02

– 60,000 tonnes of Romanian wheat from al-Alamiya at $252 per tonne with freight costs of $11.57 .
