Report: Netanyahu Seeking U.S. Assistance To Arrange Morsi Meeting

by Administrator

Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu has begun to put pressure on U.S. officials to arrange a meeting with Egyptian President Mohammed Morsi, Egyptian diplomats were quoted in Egyptian media as saying, according to a report in Maariv.

According to the sources, the U.S. is also putting pressure on Egypt to accomplish three goals: a declaration by the current Egyptian government that it is committed to the peace treaty with Israel. Second, the stabilization of the country’s internal political situation. Third, a meeting between Morsi and Israeli President Shimon Peres.

The sources said that a recent meeting between Palestinian Authority President Mahmoud Abbas, Peres, Jordan’s King Abdullah, and U.S. Secretary of State John Kerry has motivated Egyptian officials to become more involved in the Israeli-Palestinian conflict.

The sources added that Egypt is considering putting aside it’s approach to Israel, making overtures and, depending on the response, setting up the meeting between Morsi and Israeli officials.
