Egyptian Activist Ahmed Maher Escapes From Death, Cites ‘Conspiracy’

by Yomna Yasser

The recently-released April 6 Youth Movement leader Ahmed Maher has survived a certain death on Monday morning. This was after having a horrific car accident in Cairo ring road.

Maher was driving his car along the ring road in El Basateen district astounded by a pick-up truck driving fast trying to collide with his car. This had eventually led to disruption of the steering wheel of the activist’s car and colliding with another passing car as well as the pick-up truck.

The activist, Ahmed Maher, had been arrested Friday at the Cairo airport upon returning from abroad. He was questioned and held overnight in a high-security prison, and he was released Saturday on the order of a state prosecutor.

The Egyptian authorities on Saturday released a prominent activist who had been critical of the country’s Islamist president.

Mr. Maher, a leader of the April 6 Youth Group, was accused of inciting protests in front of the Egyptian interior minister’s house in March.
