Türkiye’s president Recep Tayyip Erdogan has inaugurated the newest and largest undersea hydrocarbon drill ship on Tuesday, heading to northwest of Cyprus in the eastern Mediterranean, which not claimed by any other country.
The new Abdulhamid Han ship is 238 metres long, 42 meters wide and equipped with a double safety system, as it will enhance Türkiye’s efforts in hydrocarbon exploration.
Erdogan said that the drilling operations that it conducted in the Mediterranean were within Turkey’s areas sovereignty, so it doesn’t need permission from anyone.
The ship would begin drilling at the Yorukler-1 well about 55 kilometers (34 miles) off the coast of Gazipasa, in Antalya, Erdogan added.
“Neither the puppets nor the ones who hold their strings will able to prevent us from getting our rights in the Mediterranean,” he said.,
He continued that the ship will continue to search until it finds something, adding when our ship finishes drilling there, it will not stop, it will move to other wells.
Moreover, aboard the ship which is capable of drilling to a depth of 12,200 meters will have a crew of 200 people.
