Pelosi’s Asian tour may include Taiwan – officials

U.S. House Speaker Nancy Pelosi expected to visit Taiwan as part of her tour of Asia, according to a senior Taiwanese government official and an U.S. official.

Biden administration officials are worries about China’s response to such a high-profile visit.

U.S. Department of Defense works hard on monitoring any Chinese movements in the region and securing a plan to keep her safe.

China warned on Monday against the egregious political impact of Pelosi’s planned visit to the self-governing island that China claims as a part of its territory.

It added that its military won’t sit by idly, if Beijing feels its sovereignty and territorial integrity are being threatened.

Nancy Pelosi starts a tour of four Asian countries on Sunday, including Singapore, Malaysia, South Korea, and Japan, her office said.

The tip aims to focus on mutual security, economic partnership and democratic governance in the Indo-Pacific region.

President Joe Biden and his Chinese counterpart Xi Jinping discussed in a phone call on Thursday the tensions mounted between Washington and Beijing.

Taiwan is the most sensitive, important core issue in China-U.S. relations, said Chinese Ambassador to the U.S. Qin Gang at the Aspen Security Forum in July.
