Egypt introduces first beach for visually-impaired guests in Alexandria

by Nada Ali

Egypt has inaugurated its first ever beach for the visually-impaired in the city of Alexandria with new passages and access signs, according to an official statement for the governor on Saturday.

El-Mandara Beach contains paths in the sea water with entries that allow them to move and swim inside the water using their hands to identify the signs, Alexandria governor Mohamed El-Sherief said.

He added that these tracks will allow people of concern to identify the paths of movement within the safe depths of the water, under a close supervision of the follow-up teams.

Moreover, these efforts allow people of determination to move safely in the sea without a companion.

“This step comes as a continuation of the efforts made by the governorate to provide the best services to people of determination, in order to achieve the principle of community integration and create a decent life for them,” El-Sherief assured.

The beach came within the framework of the political leadership’s directives to provide the best services and care for people of determination, the statement read.

In December 2021, Egyptian President Abdel-Fattah al-Sisi directed the government to establish a special fund for Egyptians with special needs during a Differently Abled event in Cairo that held in celebration of the International Day of Persons with Disabilities.
