Six police officers were killed Friday morning in an explosion believed to the be result of an IED stationed next to two security roadblocks in Al-Haram street in Giza.

The Ministry of Interior said that deaths included two officers, one non-commissioned officer, and three conscripts. Another three conscripts were wounded in the bombing.

The bombing took place before the Friday prayers, when streets are usually quiet. Al-Haram street is one of Giza’s most populated and heavily crowded roads. The bombing caused a severe change in traffic movement, causing congestion in other areas.

Police and explosive experts have been investigating the scene. While no militant group has declared responsibility of the attack so far, the most active militant group in the last three months is Hasm, which claimed to have killed and targeted several police and army personnel.
