The World’s second-Largest Container Vessel ” MSC ISABELLA” of 234.000 TEUs and a gross tonnage of 23656 tons transited the Suez Canal on Wednesday for the First Time, Admiral Osama Rabie, Chairman of Suez Canal Authority said in a statement.
He added the Panamanian ship transited the new canal waterway project with the northbound convoy, heading to North Holland from Malaysia.
“Suez canal has a promising status in the world navigational society as its unique location that makes it the first destination for the current and future generations of ships,” Admiral Osama Rabie added.
He stressed the success of the new Suez canal project to draw new shipping agencies and increase the canal capacity to receive the giant ships.
The ship stands at 399.7 m in length, a beam of 61 m, a draught of 14.5 m, and a gross tonnage of 234,000 tons with a total capacity of 23000 TEUs
The Suez canal’s chairman directed to provide all needed assists to help the ship to continue its trip safely in the canal through appointing the most efficient pilots in accordance with the Suez Canal Authority’s protocol on receiving vessels transiting for the first time, the statement added.
The chairman of Suez canal delegated captain Ashraf Habib to welcome the ship’s crew and grant a souvenir to the ship’s captain.
