US infrastructure giant Bechtel is looking to expand its business in Egypt, with an eye to get in on more of the country’s megaprojects, including managing new cities, President of Bechtel’s infrastructure global business unit Shaun Kenny told Prime Minister Moustafa Madbouly during a meeting yesterday.
Bechtel is expected to lead the planned construction of Cairo Metro Line 6, Transport Minister Kamel El Wazir previously said.
Madbouly discussed with Bechtel’s officials means of cooperation suggested by them, including cooperation in the sixth Metro line and managing new cities.
He also added that he welcomed cooperation with Bechtel in constructing the sixth line of the Metro.
The PM also stated that Egyptian construction companies have gained huge expertise in the past period that can make companies like Bechtel depend on them in implementing megaprojects, adding that the Egyptian state is currently localising industry and technology while getting the benefit of foreign expertise in technology.
The president of Bechtel’s infrastructure global business unit stressed that this would be a start to expand cooperation between the government and his company during the upcoming period, especially cooperation in the field of managing new cities.
