Two electric bus prototypes will be inaugurated in Egypt by the military production ministry on Tuesday, as part of the first phase of an agreement to manufacture the vehicles in Egypt.
Egypt signed an agreement with China’s Foton Motor company in April when a delegation of ministers accompanied President Abdel Fattah al-Sisi to China.
The two sides agreed to transfer the technology for manufacturing electric buses to Egypt, and 2,000 buses will be manufactured in an Egyptian military factory over four years, with a local manufacturing rate of up to 45 percent.
According to the agreement, China will also provide Egypt with 50 buses, the first two of which are arriving on Tuesday.
The two buses are considered a prototype to determine how the vehicles would operate in Egypt.
