Egyptian Chemical Export Council (CEC) is seeking to establish a federation for Arab industries, resembling the League of Arab States, chairman Khaled Abou El Makarem announced Wednesday.
During CEC’s first meeting following board revamp, Abou El Makarem said the planned federation is dedicated to boosting the Egyptian exports to the Arab markets.
Abou El Makarem added that his council had recently held a series of meetings with representatives from Kuwait, Iraq, and Lebanon to review plans to form the federation.
CEC will meet in the coming period with counterparts from some Arab countries to discuss their participation in the planned federation, he added.
Moreover, the Egyptian official said the federation’s headquarters is set to be in Egypt. It would be established in cooperation with members of the industrial federation and export councils.
CEC’s strategy for the upcoming period is to keep sending promotional missions to Africa. The Egyptian council had already organized 11 missions lately, resulting in Kenya’s capture of 8 % of the Egyptian chemical and fertilisers exports in the first half of 2015. It plans to send a mission to the United States soon to promote the Egyptian exports of chemical and fertilisers industries.
