Tesla Inc. is recalling 3470 Model Y vehicles in the U.S. as bolts securing the second row seatback frames are not securely tightened, according to a filing made public on Saturday.
The loose bolt can hinder the seat belt system performance and lead to injuries in case of a crash, the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) stated.
Tesla has identified five warranty claims that may have been related to this malfunction since December, but is not aware of any casualties related to the issue, the automotive reported to NHTSA.
Tesla will be inspecting bolts securing second row driver-side and passenger-side seat back frames to the lower seat frames and tightening them according to specifications following the recall.
A Tesla supplier has implemented improved process controls, training and supervision to ensure bolts are torqued to specifications, according to Tesla.
