Egypt’s President Abdel Fattah al-Sisi has congratulated Ethiopian Prime Minister Abiy Ahmed on winning the Nobel Peace Prize.
It was announced on Friday that Ahmed had won the Nobel Peace Prize for his efforts to resolve a 20-year-old border conflict with neighbouring Eritrea.
In a statement on his official Facebook page, Sisi hailed the prize as “a new win for our…continent that is always aspiring to peace and seeking stability and development.”
“I hope that our constructive efforts to end all conflicts and differences on the African continent will continue with the will of its great people,” he added.
Ahmed has been prime minister of Ethiopia since April 2018, and signed a declaration in July of that year with Eritrean President Isaias Afwerki declaring that the state of war between the two countries was at an end.
