Egypt’s President Abdel Fattah al-Sisi said the world has faced severe climatic events over the past years such as forest plows, torrential rains and floods, which have left huge economic losses.
al-Sisi’s remark came during his participation in the Heads of State Summit for the launch of the Eastern Mediterranean and Middle East (EMME) Climate Change Initiative (EMME-CCI), during the activities of 27th UN climate summit (COP27) in Sharm El Sheikh.
The President explained that despite the main responsibility is on the countries and governments, but also the non-governmental parties must play supportive roles within the framework of their responsibility in cooperation and participation.
Egypt has been keen to join the initiative to coordinate climate action in the Middle East and the Eastern Mediterranean since its launch in 2019 for the first time, al-Sisi assured.
In addition to that Egypt believes in the importance of the role of this initiative within the framework of coordinating policies to confront climate change.
This contributes to strengthening climate action and efforts to overcome its negative effects in our regional surroundings.
