The Egyptian Ready-Made Garments Exports Council, in a statement issued on Tuesday, welcomed the decision of establishing a chamber for the ready-made garments and furnishings.
Mohamed Kasem, Chairman of Ready-made Garments Export Council, said those who follow up the development of the Egyptian textile industry, will figure out that it went through several stages since 1920s, but its expansions at the first stages focused on the textile, while the ready-made garments industry emerged in 1990s.
It is worth mentioning that the Egyptian Minister of Industry and Foreign Trade, Eng. Hatem Saleh, has approved the establishment of a ready-made garments chamber at the Federation of Egyptian Industries (FEI), to be separate from the Egyptian Chamber of Textile Industries (ECTI), which is headed by Mohamed Al Morshedy.
Mohamed El-Sewedy, Deputy President of FEI, stressed the significance of this decision in developing the ready-made garments sector; referring that this decision is to contribute to increasing the Egyptian exports, as the sector’s exports in 2012 attained EGP 2 billion.
