A partially locally-made air-conditioned train is to kick off its first trip tomorrow, Monday from Cairo to Alexandria in the presence of Prime Minister Ibrahim Mahlab and Transport Minister Hany Dahy.
The fully air-conditioned train is the product of a joint manufacturing project between the state-owned Arab Organisation for Industrialisation (AOI)’s SEMAF and a Chinese company, which made the train body.
The train has been produced with “greater than 50 percent Egyptian contribution” to operate on the country’s railways.
The new train also has a VIP section where seats on the Cairo-Alexandria route will cost 100 Egyptian pounds (US$12.78)
Minister Dahy said the train will be in service after the technical evaluations of its safety have been completed.
